week-end trip to Laguna Quilotoa, 2

The main focus of this trip was a hike around the Laguna Quilotoa. Its a "burned out" volcano, like many volcanoes this one died, the openings to the core of the earth was blocked over centuries and the volcano crater was filled with water.
The crater walls raises hundreds of meters up all around an almost perfect round lake, and from the rim the drop to the other side also drops dramatically, making the 12 km walk around the rim a balancing act at times. The rim is not horizontal you climb up and down the steep narrow path.
Once again in this country a breath taking "WOW" moment, that actually lasted 5 hours.

setting out

wow once again

There was a restaurant at the end of the trail and the cold Pilsener, which is a local beeer and stated on the label as being Ecuatorianamente Refrescante (Ecuadorianly refreshing) was indeed that.
